Online Poker Tells

Chat Feature

Most online poker rooms have chat boxes that facilitate players to communicate with each other. This feature allows you to determine the strength of your opponents’ hands, just like you would in live casinos. Online opponents who hold strong hands will often try to force you into calling. Don’t fall for it. It is less likely to call an opponent who is challenging you online.

Action Buttons

Many online poker rooms are equipped with action buttons that give players the opportunity to state their intentions on a hand before the actual action occurs. The computer will implement this decision when the concerned player’s turn arrives. Players are likely to use the “call any” action button if they are on a draw and the “raise any” button if they have a solid hand.

Pay attention to pauses

Be attentive and check how long your opponent takes to call or raise you. If a player intentionally stalls and then raises you, it typically means that they often have a very strong hand and are trying to entice you. If they stall and then just call, they must have weak, marginal or drawing hands.

It must be remembered, however, that while poker tells are a very powerful tool allowing you to take your game to the next level, they should only complement your skills; you should never try to replace the fundamental game that you learned as a beginning player.
